Gathering Interest in Transition Towns
The Transition Towns movement has been gathering pace globally it is now reportedly one of the fastest growing Social movements on the planet. Its founder Rob Hopkins has been winning prestigious awards such as an Observer Ethical Award for Grassroots campaign of the year. I‘m sure most of you are aware that the whole thing started with students on Rob‘s Permaculture course in Kinsale well the rest of West Cork (excluding Bandon) has been I guess rather typically relaxed and slow about gettin involved. That seems to be changing and we are delighted that a growing group of people has formed that are interested in initiating Transition Initiatives in the West of West Cork including at present, Adrigole, Ballydehob, Ballingeary, Bantry, Drimoleague, Dunmanway, Durrus & Skibbereen. It is one of Sustains goals to help initiate & support the set up of Initiatives such as these and I along with Klaus Harvey of Kinsale TT am on the newly formed Transition Towns Ireland Steering Group as representatives for Cork. On the new web site (see ad above) I have created a Sustain West Cork Group for those of us interested where we can post topics, reply & comment.
The new group is meeting for the second time at Tuesday 28th in the Community Hall, Ballydehob for 8pm.
All are welcome, if you would like to know more please contact me at festival@sustainwestcork.com
