Wave expected to hit Dublin on Saturday the 5th of December
Recent flooding events show clear need for global action on climate change

The Stop Climate Chaos coalition is organising The Wave, a mass demonstration demanding action on climate change on Saturday the 5th of December in Dublin's city centre.  This action is linking up with simultaneous actions in Paris, London, Glasgow, Belfast, Brussels and Berlin ahead of the crucial global climate summit in Copenhagen next month.

The group expect The Wave will be the biggest ever climate demonstration ever held in Ireland.  Molly Walsh of Friends of the Earth said "We are asking people to come to this event to demand that our government push for a strong, fair deal at the UN climate talks in Copenhagen.  As Mary Robinson said last week 'we are all in this together now'.   From floods across Ireland to droughts and famine in Africa the impacts of climate change are very real and very destructive. We need people to come to Customs House Quay on Saturday the 5th at 12 noon dressed in blue and ready to demand real action on climate change."

Speaking about the relationship between the floods and climate change spokesperson for the coalition, Gavin Harte, said

"It is difficult to attribute any one event to climate change but what is clear is that events like the terrible flooding happening around the country fit the patterns of what the science predicts. The extreme flooding we are currently seeing is likely to become more and more frequent if we don't act. Therefore it’s imperative that we join together on the 5th December and demand a safe, low carbon future for all of us."
Thousands are expected to form "The Wave" in Dublin on the 5th of December at 12 noon as it surges from the Department of the Environment at Custom House Quay to "crash" against the Department of the Taoiseach on Upper Merrion Street.  The action will be colourful and powerful, with all participants wearing blue to represent the upsurge of public opinion for a fair and safe global deal in Copenhagen.   The Wave will be an enjoyable occasion for all, with special guest speakers including David McWilliams and prizes for Best Dressed in Blue at this fun rally with a difference.
